29 February & 1 March 2008 – Planned Hosting Outage on control.tppinternet.net.au

Last year we began planning some changes to our network to improve the reliability and stability of our hosting platform.

We identified a number of changes that could be made that would have an immediate effect and could be undertaken quickly. These changes started to occur from 4th December 2007 and now we are 75% of the way there with only a few further changes to make.

We have managed to keep planned outage downtime to an absolute minimum, and all out of business hours.

To complete the upgrade we now have to physically move some of our equipment that will affect customers hosting services hosted on control.tppinternet.net.au.

The outage required to complete this phase of the upgrade is scheduled for 7pm Friday 29 February to 7am Saturday 1 March 2008.

During the outage, login and FTP access to the servers will be disabled.

All mail will be spooled to our secondary mail server and will be delivered at the completion of the upgrade. Due to the amount of mail processed by our secondary server, it may take up to 48 hours for all mail to be received once the upgrade has been completed. Please note that our secondary mail server will only collect mail during the outage for domain names that use our DNS hosting.

Websites and URL forwarding services will not be available for the majority of the upgrade, however they may resolve intermittently.

Customers with externally managed DNS will need to coordinate with their DNS hosting provider to update the hosting server IP address on the night of the outage as per the new IP addresses for each server provided below:

Server Name New Server IP Address
control.tppinternet.net.au 202.47.4.161

It is recommended that customers with externally managed DNS work with their provider to drop the TTL (Time To Live) of the Zone File prior to making this change to ensure that IP addresses are updated promptly.

Customers with dedicated IP addresses allocated to them on our hosting platform for use with SSL certificates will be assigned new IP addresses as part of this upgrade.

Customers with externally managed DNS and dedicated IP addresses will receive a specific email shortly explaining these changes.

We will post updates and progress reports on this status page, so please check this site regularly.

Once this upgrade is complete, we are confident that the problems experienced previously will be resolved and that you will receive the level of service and performance that you expect from TPP.

Please contact us on 1300 665 491 if you have any questions about these changes. Remember that you can also provide feedback direct to the management team from our “Tell The Boss” link on our website.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all customers for their continued support and business.

Clair Gowenlock
Operations Manager
